User and Professional Aspects for Sustainable Computing Based on the Internet of Things in Europe
This article examines the human factors that support the sustainable implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Europe. While IoT is increasingly applied in areas such as smart cities, energy management, and sustainable development, its successful adoption depends not only on technology but also on users' perceptions and the availability of qualified professionals. To define these competency requirements, the researchers used ESCO as a reference framework for identifying occupations and skills related to IoT and Smart City Ecosystems. By mapping and analysing relevant ESCO occupations, the study identified the professional profiles and competencies needed to support the sustainable deployment and management of IoT solutions. The research highlights the value of ESCO in connecting emerging technological trends with labour market needs, providing a structured basis for skills analysis, workforce development and the design of training initiatives that support Europe's digital and sustainable transitions.
