This work is part of the Commission’s continuous process to enhance and maintain ESCO with high-quality data. By enriching ESCO occupation concepts with structured metadata from NACE, the Commission aims to better support stakeholders across the European labour market, including those involved in job matching, skills intelligence, statistical analysis, workforce development, and education and training policy.

The ESCO–NACE mapping provides this complementary perspective by connecting each ESCO occupation to one or more economic sectors as defined by NACE.

This offers significant value for:

  • Sector-based labour market analytics
  • Understanding economic patterns of occupational demand
  • Industry-specific upskilling and reskilling strategies
  • Designing education and training programmes tailored to sectoral needs

The ESCO–NACE mapping further complements existing classification relationships and opens new analytical and practical possibilities for stakeholders across public and private sectors.

NACE codes are now visible on all ESCO occupation profiles, and the full mapping is available through the crosswalk table.

To learn more about the methodology used for the crosswalk and access the mapping table, visit the ESCO Crosswalk page where you will find:
