ESCO er et initiativ under Europa 2020.

Europa-Kommissionens Generaldirektorat for Beskæftigelse, Sociale Anliggender, Arbejdsmarkedsforhold og Inklusion har udviklet ESCO-klassifikationen i samarbejde med interessenter og Det Europæiske Center for Udvikling af Erhvervsuddannelse (Cedefop).
