The article explores the development of sustainable manufacturing models in relation to the changing demand for skills, particularly those related to green jobs. It emphasizes the importance of ESCO for monitoring and mapping the evolution of occupations related to the green economy. Particulary, with the update of the ESCO classification published in January 2022, a list of 570 green skills was disseminated. ESCO therefore served as a reference point for identifying green occupations and understanding their evolving landscape.

The study aims to formulate a methodological proposal for the definition of a rating index capable of quantifying the green vocation of each profession, studying and enhancing the recurrence of knowledge, skills and associated skills. The 299 navigable professions in this framework are ranked according to the Green Ranking value calculated by the Direzione Studi & Ricerche - Data Science of Anpal Servizi, studying the occurrence of green competences, knowledge and skills associated with each profession in the ESCO classification.

Based on the Green Ranking values, in this article and the dashboard created, 299 occupations are classified into 4 groups as follows:

  • 67 professions with high green professional skills;
  • 53 professions with medium to high green professional readiness;
  • 78 professions with medium-low green professional skills;
  • 101 professions with low green professional abilities.
