ESCO for Youth
With the World Youth Skills Day, the international community calls for a joint effort to achieve sustainable, inclusive and stable societies by ensuring a more suitable integration of the younger generations in the labour market.
In this effort, ESCO supports education and training institutions by listing a number of attitudes relevant for the labour market. These attitudes reflect individual work styles and ensure the effective application of knowledge and skills in a particular work context. A correct identification and understanding of these attitudes can help education providers to prepare their students for the needs of the labour market. The infographic below illustrates some of the attitudes listed in ESCO’s skills pillar.
ESCO also supports companies by listing a set of skills needed in the workplace to ensure the effective integration of young workers in the labour market. In the recently published skills pillar, a targeted space is reserved to coaching and mentoring skills that actively help “individuals or groups to improve their strengths, life skills, performance, learning skills and confidence and to optimise specific methods, skills or abilities”. These skills help reducing access barriers in the world of work and accelerate the time required by new employees to gain confidence with their occupation and tasks. The infographic below gives general information concerning this skill group and lists examples of skills.
Finally, ESCO helps young people to identify their skills and occupations, orienting them towards a career path depending on their skills and competencies. Thanks to the connections between skills, knowledge and occupations, citizens can better match their profiles to jobs and receive suggestions about possible career paths.
