EURES is the network of European employment services. The purpose of EURES is to provide information, advice and recruitment and placement services for workers and employers wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons.

EURES consists of a human network of more than 850 EURES advisers that are in daily contact with jobseekers and employers across Europe and an online portal. The EURES Job Mobility Portal hosts more than one million job vacancies from all over Europe. It helps those who wish to find a job abroad and offers European employers a variety of services and information covering every aspect of recruiting from other European countries. EURES also offers its services on mobile platforms through its app, which can be downloaded for free.


Common IT platform

In 2016, the Commission adopted the EURES Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/589) aimed at providing better job search and recruitment services across Europe. The Regulation provides for strengthened cooperation between Member States and the Commission regarding interoperability (exchange of CVs and Job vacancies via Single Coordinated channel) and automated matching between CVs and job vacancies.


How EURES benefits from ESCO

One of the aims of ESCO is to support automated skills-based matching and make EURES services even more pertinent to the current demands of the labour market. To enable successful implementation of this initiative Member States need to map their own national occupational classifications/national skills classifications (NOCs/NSCs) to and from a European classification (ESCO). Alternatively, they can decide to adopt ESCO at national level. For this purpose two Implementing Decisions were annexed to the Regulation and adopted in August 2018.

Member States have up to three years to comply with the Implementing Decisions.
