Definition

A definition in ESCO is a text field supplying a formal definition that is either widely accepted or legally binding throughout the EU. This includes in particular definitions agreed by Social Partners on European level or definitions stipulated by law. It is occasionally provided in addition to the description and the scope note.

 

Example:

Occupation: mortgage broker

Definition: Mortgage credit intermediary means a natural or legal person who is not acting as a creditor or notary and not merely introducing, either directly or indirectly, a consumer to a creditor or credit intermediary, and who, in the course of his trade, business or profession, presents or offers credit agreements to consumers; assists consumers by undertaking preparatory work or other pre-contractual administration in respect of credit agreements other than as referred to in point ; or concludes credit agreements with consumers on behalf of the creditor. (EU Directive 2014/17).
