Scope note

A scope note in ESCO is used for disambiguation. Therefore, it directs the users:

  • to similar concepts that are considered as included in the scope
  • to alternative concepts that are excluded from it. In this case it provides hyperlinks to other ESCO concepts.

A scope note is sometimes provided in addition to the description.

Example:

Occupation: chef

Scope note: Includes banqueting chef. Includes people performing training activities.

Example:

Occupation: chief data officer

Scope note: Excludes data scientists. (displayed as link). Excludes data analysts. (displayed as link). Includes people performing high executive data roles.

Example:

Skill/competence: assess artistic proposal

Scope note: Applies to creators or performers who receive an artistic proposal to be assessed.
