EURES and ESCO

The connection between EURES and ESCO is established under Regulation (EU) 2016/589, which aims to promote intra-EU labour mobility. In order to further promote labour mobility, facilitate the exchange of job vacancies and job seeker profiles and ensure a high quality matching across languages and national contexts, Regulation (EU) 2016/589 stipulates that the Commission develops a European classification for this purpose.

As foreseen by the Implementing Decision 2018/1020, such classification is made by the list of occupations, skills and concepts from ESCO version 1.0. Article 19 of the Regulation (EU) 2016/589 provides therefore for the legal obligation of Member States to adopt ESCO or to map their national classifications to ESCO, within 3 years from the entry into force of the Implementing Decisions. The European Commission provides technical support to Member States for mapping to or implementing ESCO.  More information are available in the dedicated ESCOpedia page. Moreover, the Implementing Decision 2018/1021 foresees that such correspondence tables must be structured based on specific Technical standards and formats.

As foreseen by the EURES Regulation, the European Commission publishes the mapping tables between the ESCO classification and the national classifications of EURES. The files can be downloaded by clicking on the name of the selected country. Countries that are not on the list have either adopted ESCO or have not yet submitted their mapping table.

Please keep in mind that mapping tables obtained from this website are in CSV format. As a result, they may be opened in either a spreadsheet viewing program or any text editor.
